Guangou Fm
Type Locality and Naming
The type section is located in the area of Xincun Village to Guangou, Xinxiang Township, Huidong County, Sichuan Province. It was named by the No. 1 Regional Survey Party under the Geological Bureau of Sichuan Province in 1966, and was first cited publicly by the Compiling Group for the Regional Stratigraphic Chart of Southwest China in 1978.

Lithology and Thickness
It is composed mainly of purple and dark-purple mudstones, intercalated with grey and grey-violet mudstone and siltstone, with its basal part consisting of grey-violet, grey-yellow and purple siltstones and fine-grained sandstones, containing copper ores; and with its upper part being often intercalated with many of alternations of marls with mudstone. Its thickness is of 600-850 m.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It disconformably underlies the Niugundang Fm
Upper contact
It conformably overlies the Lower Cretaceous Feitianshan Fm
Regional extent
The formation is distributed in the areas of Xichang, Weishi, Huidong and Huili Cities in southwestern Sichuan.

Fossils
It yields only Ostracod fossils as represented by Darwinula sarytirmenensis, Lycopterocypris sp., and Gastropod fossils.
